European Elk enjoy best ever season
The European Elk at the Alladale Wilderness Reserve have enjoyed a remarkable year.
"Cas" (gaelic for "legs") has achieved an astonishing bodyweight in the seven months since she was born. "Hercules", the bull, looks magnificent and he has mated "Hulda" again. The European Elk are used primarily as a "wilderness educator". Students embarking on TENT's "Challenger Trust" 4-day/night stay at Alladale find these "Kings of the Forest" fascinating, particularly when they learn that there are 14 fossil sites across Scotland giving clear evidence that the mighty elk roamed freely across the Highlands a thousand years ago.
